He said this on Wednesday after Fazili Abdullah Adams (Democratic Progressive Party- DPP) was elected chairperson and another DPP councillor Bunie Mwamadi Amison as his deputy.

Mwenda congratulated Adams and his deputy on their election, describing the process as peaceful and a reflection of democratic maturity within the council.

He said: “The election was conducted in a transparency manner and I commend all councillors for showing respect and order throughout the process. I believe the new leadership will uphold good governance principles.

“I urge the new council leadership to prioritise inclusive development and effective resource management as the district faces challenges in infrastructure, education and water supply that require coordinated efforts.”

In his acceptance speech, Adams expressed gratitude to his fellow councillors for the confidence put on him and pledged to promote teamwork and transparency in steering the council’s development agenda.

“This victory is not mine alone as it belongs to all councillors and the people of Salima.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues and the council’s secretariat to ensure our development plans translate into tangible results in the lakeshore district.”

Out of the 12 councillors, 10 are new faces. Among the newcomers is 27-year-old Bunie Mwamadi Amison, the youngest in the new cohort.
